LE: Proprietary Video Files

Guardify is optimized to stream .mp4 videos, but also supports  .wmv, .mov, .asf, .dav, avi, .vob, .mkv, .quicktime, .video, .mpeg, mjpeg, .m4v, and .mpg file extensions. These files are able to be processed through our system and you can utilize all of the various system features with these streaming videos.  Guardify also supports the following audio format types: m4a, aac, ac3, aiff, au, flac, mka, mp3, ogg, voc, wav, wma.

However, Guardify does support the uploading and downloading of all file types, even if the file type cannot be streamed. This type of file can be uploaded to be shared with and downloaded by other users. You are also able to upload a media player into Guardify that you can associate with the specific file types that require them.  This way, when a user downloads the proprietary file type, the required player is also downloaded at the same time so that the video can be played outside of Guardify.

Proprietary files can be added when a case is created or to cases that already exist in Guardify.

Streamable file types will show up as "Video" in the "type" column, and will give you options for whether or not you want them to be streamable in Guardify, and also give you transcription options. Files that are not able to be processed in Guardify will show  up as "Proprietary" in the "type" column, and will not give you these streaming or transcription options.

Adding a proprietary video player

If these proprietary files require a specific media player in order to be viewed, a Manager user can upload a player into Guardify that will be packaged with the video file when it is downloaded.

To do this, click the 3-dot menu at the top right corner of the screen in the purple bar, and select "Account Settings"

From the settings page, click the "Proprietary File Types" box at the bottom of the page:

A list of any existing players will appear, as well as an "Add File Player" button. Click this button to add a new player.

To add a media player, fill in the file extension type, an easily identifiable name for the types of files that this is used for, as well as the name of the player that you are uploading. Then click into the upload box on the right and add the zipped media player file. Please note that the media player must be a .zip file in order to be uploaded. For instructions on how to create a zip file, click here

Once you've added your zip file, click Add at the bottom right.

Note: If you have a proprietary file type that has a common file extension, such as .mp4, toggling on the "Only associate player if files fail to convert for streaming" option will make it so that the associated player will only download with those file types that could not be processed as streamable in Guardify.

Once you have added this media player, any files associated with this player will be packaged with the media player when they are downloaded out of Guardify.
