LE: User Permissions

User permissions are set on a per-user basis, giving specific users unique abilities beyond what a default user is able to do. The License Managers have the ability to enable permissions and delegate permission management to other Managers. All user permissions are updated by editing a user from the Users & Groups list.

For Manager Users

Office Permissions

These permissions are available only for users with the "Law Enforcement" org type. You will not have these options available for users of any other org type:

Can access all office cases

  • This permission will turn on a "Office Cases" tab on the user's interviews page, that allows them to have access to and be able to share all cases that have been created, regardless of who owns them.

Can access all office Records

  • This only pertains to accounts that are using the Records add-on feature.
  • This permission will turn on an "Office Records" tab on the user's Records page, that allows them to have access to and be able to share all Records that have been created, regardless of who owns them.

Transferring Cases

Transfer Permissions

  • This is a drop down list that gives you three options for allowing users to be able to transfer ownership of cases.
    • None: by default, users are not able to transfer cases.
    • Transfer Own: Allows this user to change ownership of a case they own to another manager.
    • Transfer All: Allows this user to change ownershop of any cases within the license to another manager.
  • Transfer permissions can be turned on for users with the Manager user role.

Manage Transfer permissions for others

  • Allows this user to manage the "Transfer Permissions" drop down options for other managers.
  • This can be turned on for users of all org types with the "Manager" user role.
  • This is a permanent default permission for License Managers

Summary Report

Can access summary report

  • This can only be turned on for users with the "Manager" user role.
  • This will give the user access to the summary report in their left-hand navigation.
  • This is a permanent default permission for License Managers

For Uploader Users

Uploader users have a couple of unique user permissions that allow for the ability to share cases and evidence that they have uploaded back with them.

Office Permissions

Can view organization uploads

  • This permission allows a user to view all uploads uploaded by their organization with the same "Organization Name."
  • This permission is not turned on by default

Sharing Cases

Allow others to share cases with this user

  • Uploaders must have this permission enabled in order to be able to have cases shared with them.
  • This permission is not turned on by default
  • This permission must be enabled in order to enable the "automatically share" permission.

Automatically share case to uploader after initial files are moved into a case

  • With this permission enabled, when a manager user moves evidence from Incoming files into a case, the uploader will automatically have that case shared with them, along with the evidence that they uploaded.
  • This permission can only be enabled with the "allow others to share cases with this user" permission.

For Investigator Users

There are two optional permissions a that can be turned on for an Investigator that limit their control of cases that they own:

Prevent from Sharing Cases

  • When enabled, this user cannot share any of their own cases with other users.

Prevent downloading files from case

  • When enabled, this user cannot download evidence from cases they own.
  • This permission will only apply to the ability to download from cases the investigator owns.
  • If another user shares a case with them and enables the download share permission, this permission will not affect that share permission.

Additionally, the ability to transfer cases can be managed in an Investigator's user permissions.

  • When this drop down box is changed from the default option of "None," Investigators can be given the option to transfer their own cases to a new owner, to transfer all cases from any owner, to any owner.
