Edit a Video Transcript
Each interview in Guardify can have one transcript generated, which is produced using artificial intelligence This transcript is meant to be used as a tool when reviewing an interview, not as an official interview transcript. Since the accuracy of the transcript is heavily dependent on the audio quality of the video, each transcript that is generated can be edited to allow users to make changes to any inaccuracies that show up in the transcript.
The custodian of an interview has full access to edit their transcript, and when an interview is shared with another user, the ability to edit must be given to them in the share permissions.
Note: If you have had an interview shared with you and you do not see the option to edit, please reach out to the person who shared the interview with you to get access.
To open the transcript for an interview, click the 3-dot menu at the top right of the video player and select "View/Edit Transcript."
The video transcript window that opens is broken up by identifiable speakers, and includes time stamps for each segment of the transcribed video. Each segment can be edited by clicking the pencil icon to the right of the segment that you'd like to change. You can also open the transcript editor by clicking the 3-dot menu at the bottom of the transcript and selecting "edit."
Note: If the edit button is greyed out, click the "Version" drop down to the left of the edit button and make sure the draft is selected. The one labeled "original" or has the "cc" icon cannot be edited.
The transcript window will now be editable, with line-by-line editing tools that you can use to update the transcript. You can click into each line and make changes as you play through the interview.
There are a few tools available in the transcript editor at your disposal:
If you are editing the transcript while the interview is still playing, you can click this jump-to icon at the bottom of the transcript window to be brought to the line in the transcript that is currently playing in the video. The purple highlighted bar will move through the transcript and highlight what is being said as the video plays.
To change the name of the speaker on any given line, click the circular arrows icon to swap between speaker 1 and speaker 2, or click the pencil icon to customize the name of the speaker of that line.
To split a line to sync up better in the closed captioning, move your cursor to the beginning of the word that you would like to be the first word of the next line, and then click the "split caption" icon to the right of the row. Splitting lines and line character limits only pertain to the closed captioning, and do not appear in the transcript.
To delete a line, click the trash can icon to the right of the row.
Clicking on the time stamp for a line in the transcript editor will bring the playback of the video back to that exact point in the video. |
When you've finished editing your transcript, save the changes to your new draft by clicking "save" at the bottom right of the screen.
If you would like to have those changes reflected in the closed captioning of the video, click the purple "publish" button. If you do not want to save your changes, click cancel.
Once a transcript has been edited and saved, a new draft version of a transcript can be viewed at any time from the "View Transcript" window. At the bottom of the transcript viewer, you'll see a "version" drop down box where you can select which version of the transcript you would like select.
You can delete a draft of a transcript at any time by clicking the trash can icon after selecting that version of the transcript.
You can unpublish a published transcript by selecting it in the version list, and clicking the undo icon. Once a transcript version has been unpublished, it can then be deleted.
